Ferreira, Alouette

I try to capture longing with my portraits. The longing to connect, to be accepted for who we are and understood…and loved unconditionally. My brushstrokes speak of the expression of this longing, while the overall painting gives the impression that I have from my subjective view. My use of the colour blue especially is an appeal to what is beneath the surface, a spiritual reality. I use blue for my first quick sketch wherein I capture the impression. I then cover it up with fleshy white and pink and yellow. But the blue shines through and even peaks out in my paintings. Not by accident. I could not live in a world where everything is just pink, white and yellow. I want my paintings to speak of the reality of the soul.
